How To Install Ceramic Wall Tiles In Your Kitchen

Whatever style or size you choose, the principles of floor tile installation are the same.

It is astounding how a simple floor tiling project can make such a difference in your floor.

Whether you install floor tiles over an existing floor, you always should clean the surface.

For cutting tiles there are several tools available ,and most of these can be rented for a very cheap price at most home centers and rental yards.

Start tiling at the back wall of the floor. Using a level, draw a vertical line from the outside edge of the floor up as high you want the tile on the wall. Use a level to draw a vertical line from the outside edge of the tub to make a mark the end of the tiles.

Place the starter row of tiles along the top edge. Cut the tile next to the corner wall. Cut the floor tile after you have adjusted the tile.

Spread so much mastic along the floor wall as you will be able to use up within about half an hour.

Locate the first row of floor tiles in position. Push every tile a bit to spread the mastic. But don't slide the floor tile around or the mastic will fall down. You have to leave a 1/8-inch gap between the tub and the first row of the tiles. Plastic tile spacers are available at tile and hardware stores.

Locate the edge cap and following the first two floor tiles of the next row in place. You now have the beginning of a stair-step pattern. Continue putting floor tiles in a stair-step pattern. When all except the top row are in place.

Finish by putting the row of cap tiles along the top of the tiles, starting with an outside corner cap.

Clean up the extra mastic and clean your tools. Allow the mastic at least about 24 hours to dry properly.
