How to Re-Roof Your Home

Your homes roof is one of the most important fixtures of you home.  It must be well maintained in order to keep you and your belongings warm and dry.  This series of articles will take a look at putting a new roof on your home, and some common roof repairs that the do-it-yourselfer can tackle.

Tools For Roofing

Following our tradition, let´s talk about what tools you´ll need to do the work.  Most of the tools are just common carpenter tools, but there are a couple that might let you make a trip to your favorite home improvement warehouse.

  • Hammer
  • Carpenter´s Apron
  • Yellow Crayon (not the kind your children color with)
  • Chaulk Box (blue or red)
  • Framing Square
  • Tack Puller (for mistakes mostly)
  • Utility Knife
  • Tape Measure
  • Ladder
  • Flat Bar
In addition to these tools, you might want to see if you can borrow a roofing nailer and compressor.  If you don´t know anyone that has one, no worries, it just speeds things up.  I like swinging a hammer anyway. ;)

To start out with, let´s get one thing straight.  I´ll help you get your new roof put on, but I´m not carrying one bundle of shingles up that ladder!
